Staring down the barrel of your future
with a pistol pointed at your past
don’t be fooled into thinking
that any of this is gonna last
not your safety
not your freedom
not your money
not your time
not your rights
not your dignity
your privacy
or pride
Portable smokescreen in the palm of your hand
while the war machines roll across the land
(the land of the free)
In the game of life you’ll be just a pawn
Unless you act you’ll be acted upon
You get one life and it don’t last long
Stand up and act or be acted upon
Who do you trust, who can you trust
your leaders diseased with corruption and lust
what will you do, what can you do, when
you’re helping the watchmen watch over you
The leaders you elected to protect your dreams
they’re picking your pockets and running their schemes
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
we’ve seen it and it’s a fact
time to rise and shine and then absolutely
Take the Power Back
(in the home of the brave)
In the game of life you’ll be just a pawn
Unless you act you’ll be acted upon
You get one life and it don’t last long
Stand up now or be acted upon
if you let others fool you
into thinking that they rule you
you’re not living just being
acted upon
game of life
game of life
just a pawn
just a pawn
stand up now
stand up now

MojoNotes
For this inspired collaboration with Troy Jay Adams and Jay Hale, I decided to take the lyrics in a political direction and channel a bit of Rage Against the Machine and Faith no More. The working title that I drew from came from a ‘note to self’ from Troy’s writer wife Sara:
“your main character needs to act, not only be acted upon, in order for change to occur”
