Just a Quickie

She Likes BlackHey there – I know it seems like a lot of ‘one step forward, two steps back’ around here lately but things actually are progressing. Took a little time off to mix someone else’s music for a change, and learned a lot in the process. Now I’m back in the ring to take another swing at the long-overdue “She Likes Black” EP!

I will say that busy as I’ve been, and committed as I am, there are some life changes looming in the near future that are going to impact my music making time… no details, just know that I’ve got more music on the way for you. In the meantime, thanks for all your support as always! Horns high!

Mojo’s Pick of the Week — Dead Sara

Los Angeles’ Dead Sara, whose April 2012 debut brought us the breakout song “Weatherman”, bring an infectious raw energy to their brand of garage rock. Check the video and tell me you aren’t moved. When I first saw it I was immediately blown away by the sound and passion of lead singer Emily Armstrong — it reminded of the first time I heard Kory Klarke with his New York political punk fury fronting Warrior Soul back in the day. Dead Sara have a softer side as well, able to pull off a soulful acoustic jam like “Sorry for it All” with equally disarming emotion. They were playing on the Vans Warped Tour until guitarist Siouxsie fractured her ribs recently, but will be returning in the fall to open for the Offspring. Catch them if you can!

Mojo’s Pick of the Week – Electric Sister

Raw and real, Electric Sister‘s brand of rock & roll kicks your ass like a steel-toed boot! I got to see this killer San Francisco Bay Area band live and loud at one of my favorite spots in the city, Bender’s.

The whole time I was blown away by their raw energy as they ripped the place apart, and I kept wondering, ‘who are these guys and how have I never heard of them?’ This was a couple of years ago — now they’re opening for bands like Steel Panther and are in the running to open for Motley Crue and Kiss at the upcoming 107.7 Bone Bash! Well deserving and well on their way to success, they definitely earned my Pick of the Week!
