You only think you don’t know who Vista Chino is. After the legendary stoner rock band Kyuss reformed as Kyuss Lives! in 2010 with Belgian guitarist Bruno Fevery filling Josh Homme’s shoes, they ended up having to drop the name Kyuss for legal reasons and became Vista Chino. Bassist Nick Oliveri has now returned to his own group Mondo Generator (named after a Kyuss song), while the absolutely amazing Mike Dean from Corrosion of Conformity has stepped in for their current tour in support of their debut album “Peace”, out now.
If you are or ever were a Kyuss fan, absolutely, positively, do not miss a chance to see Vista Chino, and revel in the reborn glory of desert rock legends playing their heavy, groovy classics with love. They play tonight at the Echoplex in LA with Portland’s Black Pussy, seriously, catch them if you can!
Stream “Peace” and read John Garcia’s thoughts on each track on Spin.
In the meantime, enjoy this Kyuss classic from Welcome to Sky Valley, well represented in their setlist:
