Bay Area thrash kings Death Angel are back with a new album on Nuclear Blast Records, “The Evil Divide”, a tour de force of hard-hitting, politically charged metal with melodic elements. Covering a range of topics from the hypocrisy of religion (“The Moth”) to bullying and the culture of terrorism (“Lost”), this album adds a new musical dimension to the long-lived thrash metal band’s already solid catalog.
Tight and angry as hell but melodic and accessible as well, this album is a leap forward for a band that lately seems to be getting better with every album, like their metal brothers Anthrax. There is a new confidence in this album that lets the songs breathe and evolve… it’s got a more well-rounded and mature feel than their last outing “The Dream Calls for Blood”, which was a relentless attack of quick riffs and shouty vocals that felt like one long song in multiple parts. “The Evil Divide” is a great album by a mature band at the top of their game.
