Mojo’s Pick of the Week: LoNero

pickThe namesake of founder Bill Lonero, LoNero is a groundbreaking Bay Area guitar rock band that originated a style they call Guitarcore, which is their term for melodic instrumental rock that stands on its own without the need for a singer! Bill and his hallmark purple Peavey Wolfgang fronts the band with a ferocious dedication to pure musicianship.

Last year they released their acclaimed second album J.F.L. (or Just Fucking Listen), bringing a new twist to their unique brand of guitar rock with groovy “punkstramental” songs like “Fat Tat.”LoNero

LoNero prides themselves on their live shows, and are about to embark on a tour as the backing band for Paul Di’Anno, playing classic Iron Maiden from the first two albums. Think about that for a second – they are standing in for Iron fucking Maiden playing with the original singer! This you have to see, if they come anywhere near you! Mojo’s Pick of the Week: Circle of Thorns

Circle of Thorns is a dark alt-metal six piece band from New York that is both brutally heavy and surprisingly easy to listen to. Underneath the relentless face-pounding is an experimental thread that nearly puts them in a progressive category. Fans of Pantera and Alice in Chains will dig Circle of Thorns’ brand of brutal beats!
