I know virtually nothing about The Flying Eyes, I had never heard of them until this excellent album came across my Bandcamp feed via Ripple Music.
Released just this past week (September 8, 2017), it’s a heavy blues infused fuzz rock with a kind of 60s-70s psychedelic vibe that is just a pleasure to listen to.
These guys are out of Balitmore, MD and are currently on tour in Europe in support of the new album. Check it out!
Australia’s Devil Electric just dropped all kinds of heavy. Their self-titled debut was just released on August 11, 2017 and I’m not kidding when I say it made my hair stand on end at times.
Frontwoman Pierina O’Brien has the pipes to compete with the Sabbath-inspired heavy blues & doom guitars, thundering drums, and pounding bass that swell up like crashing waves of thick fuzz behind her.
This is a must have for any doom/fuzz/heavy blues fan!
My pick of the week for this week is more like the pick of the summer, the hard working, hard rocking little label that could, Ripple Music. These guys bust their asses to support the best and brightest (darkest!) up and coming heavy rock, stoner rock, and doom bands and get them into your earholes!
I’m talking about bands like Mothership, Wo Fat, Gozu, Roadsaw, Freedom Hawk, The Watchers, Salem’s Bend, The Judge, Arrowhead, ZED, Blackwulf, LDDSM, Mos Generator — some you know, and some you don’t even know you love yet. And if you just want a taste of what’s good you can check out their chronic compilations called the Second Coming of Heavy on Bandcamp and YouTube.
I’m on their mailing list and their Bandcamp fan list, and it seems like every week I’m hearing about some killer new release through these guys. I’m always impressed with the quality of the music. I’ve also seen some of the behind the scenes efforts on Facebook and have met main man and standup guy Todd Severin in person. These guys go out to the shows, see the bands, walk the walk and talk the talk because they truly love the music and it shows!
