Mojo’s Pick of the Week – Shotgun Harlot

Sonoma County’s Shotgun Harlot may have only been together a few years, but their strong songwriting, solid sound, and energetic live shows have quickly gained them a loyal local following. Fans of Corrosion of Conformity, Black Water Rising, and Black Stone Cherry will enjoy their heavy southern-style rock fury.

They were already impressive when I saw them at the beginning, opening for Burn Halo, and last week I attended their debut CD release show when they played with another up and coming Bay Area band, Pushing the Sun.

Next week on 1/22/14 Shotgun Harlot will be opening for the legendary Ratt at the Phoenix in Petaluma. Give them a listen and a shout on their Facebook page!

Tampa’s Mr. Bella is a female-fronted hard rock outfit with hooks to burn, whose wide range of influences come together in a heavy, melodic, engaging sound that will please fans of In This Moment and Halestorm. They’re making their name known with their energetic live shows in support of bands like Bush and Sevendust, and have just released their latest single Crash & Burn on iTunes. Check them out!

Mojo’s Pick of the Week – Deap Vally

I love it when I randomly stumble onto music that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I just followed a link to stream some music at Spin and Deap Vally was loaded up on the player, so I pressed play to see what it was and instantly fell in love with this LA duo and their in-your-face fuzz rock.

Deap Vally consists of Lindsey Troy (guitar, vocals) and Julie Edwards (drums and vocals), and though they’ve only been around a couple of years, their raw, electric blues sounds like it’s been honed on the road for a lifetime. The sound is somewhere between the White Stripes and Cage the Elephant, and every song leaves me wanting more.

Their debut EP Get Deap! is available on iTunes.
