Mojo’s Pick of the Week – Scorpion Child

scorpionchildFans of Black Sabbath, Dio, Mountain, and any number of 70’s heavy fuzz rock bands will find that Austin’s Scorpion Child feels like your comfortable old Converse kicks and equally makes you want to jump around and dance and maybe break shit. These guys are solid as hell, and bring their unashamed retro style right in your face like a fisted glove. They’ve played with the mighty Clutch, among others, and are on tour right now to promote their just-released self titled debut album. Catch them at Slim’s SF on September 23!

Command Decision.

This week I will finally be putting the She Likes Black EP to bed. I have made a command decision to bump the newest song to the next EP, due in the Spring, title TBD. I’ll be digging deep for the next one, pulling out some songs I wrote a while back and finally finishing them up!

She Likes Black has been delayed way too long as it is — personal issues, technical difficulties, stuff you just don’t even want to know about, but it’s done. Mastering next, then it’s all yours! Look for an announcement some time in the next week. I’ll make it available on Bandcamp and mojosarmy.com, with selected songs on Soundcloud. Rock on!

Mojo’s Pick of the Week: BOTTOM

BOTTOM is a mega-heavy metal trio fronted by Les Paul abuser Sina D’Crime. Originally from the Lower East Side of NYC, BOTTOM has risen like a phoenix in San Francisco with a new rhythm section and heavier-than-ever grooves. Since the early 90’s they’ve played with everyone from Acid King to YOB, including Electric Wizard, Monster Magnet, AFI and countless others. BOTTOM’s sound blends a raw, punky NYC influence with a San Francsico stoner fuzz groove to wild effect.

BOTTOM’s latest offering, a live-in-studio EP titled MMXII just dropped, and you can preview and purchase it at their Bandcamp site. You can also catch them live in San Francisco and San Jose in the next few weeks, including a date at Bender’s next month with my friends My Victim on the 29th! You know I’ll be there!
